To engage and integrate college training resources with large public sector organisations with the aim of providing a seamless route to workforce development through cost effective, quality educational provision
Widening participation in quality education of employees working in the region's public and private sector organisations.
By establishing and nurturing close links (termed Partnerships) with senior decision makers and co-operatively analysing their workforce development needs, constructing study courses to suit and administering candidates throughout.
Corporate Development is responsible for and directly delivers learning and skills to each group of students from the assessment of learner needs (where required) through to Certification and potential progression routes.
One of Corporate Development's key strengths is the ability to recognise specific areas of training need and work with that employer to build training provision which is bespoke and which accurately reflects that requirement. We are happy to work with an employer to plan, develop and deliver programmes which in many cases need to be designed, written and gain accreditation from the appropriate awarding body. Employers comment that this process, far from being a process of negotiation is made simple and always done in a relaxed manner, face to face and at a location easily accessible to all.
Part of our strength is our assessment of skills needs, this, combined with our effective Management Information Systems (MIS), are used to track learners' progress from induction through to completion. These are essential tools for setting goals and maintaining continuity, particularly for learners with busy working lifestyles. The College supports each learner with professional Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their learning and development. This process improves access to, and retention in, learning.
Corporate Development, in line with Government policy works with its Partners to roll out NVQ provision to a wider audience, encompassing staff at all levels within those organisations to engage and deliver appropriate training which not only provides the learner with a Nationally recognised qualification but, in some cases their first step back into further education following school. In many cases employees will have work based competencies but no formally recognised qualifications.
Examples of NVQ provision include: Administration, Cleaning, Support Services, Care, Operating Department Support, Substance Misuse and Customer Service.
Andrew Warburton - Managing Director, Area Rugs and Carpets
Your staff (Corporate Development) are knowledgeable and have advised me about levels of qualifications and the most appropriate route to take for different grades of staff. Due to the large geographical area of the company you have been able to facilitate training throughout Yorkshire, this has helped us to ensure equality of access to training for the organisation.
Staff who have attended courses facilitated by your team provide positive feedback and evaluation of the content of presentations are relevant to job roles and that tutors are helpful, approachable and professional in the delivery.
Mike McLaren - Managing Director, Handsome Trimmings
Corporate Development exemplifies best practice in providing optimum programmes that best fit employer's needs. The philosophy that Corporate Development employs is that 'one size does not fit all' and therefore they listen to employers and then custom make the service to meet the needs of employers and their learners. It works well and truly is partnership working at its best. This flexible and adaptable approach means that learning and learners are at the centre of all programmes.
Mark Crosby - Holcros Cycles.
What shines out overall is the outstanding way in which you (Corporate Development) engages with employers. It's particularly refreshing to find someone in the further education sector who knows how to listen to employers - this is quite rare - not only to listen but to think creatively and flexibly in terms of suggested solutions. We certainly don't get bombarded with the same old repackaged programmes. You are particularly adept at solving solutions in a way which focus on meeting employer needs and maximise any opportunities for partnership and workplace delivery.

Sector Skills Council and Industrial Body
Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are independent, UK wide organisations developed by groups of influential employers in industry or business sectors of economic or strategic significance. SSCs are employer-led and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the sector.
SSCs give responsibility to employers to provide leadership for strategic action to meet their sector skills and business needs. In return they receive substantial public investment and greater dialogue with government departments across the UK. This will enable sector employers to have a far greater impact on policies affecting skills and productivity, and increased influence with education and training partners. Each SSC will agree sector priorities and targets with its employers and partners to address four key goals:
• Reducing skills gaps and shortages
• Improving productivity, business and public service performance
• Increasing opportunities to boost the skills and productivity of everyone
in the sector workforce, including action on equal opportunities
• Improving learning supply, including apprenticeships, higher education
and national occupational standards
